Charros El Carretero

Charros El Carretero and Amigos El Carretero, is a labor of love for the Pina family. Since 2005, the Pinas have been practicing “Charreria” in the Des Moines area. Charreria is a large part of their culture that has been brought from Mexico. This riding style is about horsemen, horsewomen, roping, reining, and celebrating our love of horses. This sport is very family-oriented. Charros (cowboys) start as young a 3, learning to perform rope tricks and basics of riding. Both men and women’s teams travel throughout the country to enter competitions and performing in local parades. They are proud to share their heritage with the Iowa horse community at the 2022 Iowa Horse Fair.
