IHC Trails Committee

The Trails Committee of the Iowa Horse Council is made up of horse council members who have a passion for trail riding and a desire to maintain and further trail riding in Iowa. We are a small committee with a lot to do and would welcome Iowa Horse Council members who would be willing to donate their time and ideas to join our committee.
We meet once a month, normally in the home of a member or in a restaurant. For the past two years the committee has been sponsoring educational clinics that would be of interest to Iowa trail riders. We keep the fees for these clinics as low as possible and offer a discount to Iowa Horse Council members.
Some of the past clinics offered by the IHC Trails Committee:
-
Confidence Clinic for fearful riders
-
Trailer backing clinic
-
Colic clinic
-
Camp cooking clinic
-
Barefoot trimming clinic
-
Drone Desensitization Clinic
Our committee has several interesting ideas for a more topics in 2022!
One of things we did with the profits from these clinics was to provide large tall three step mounting blocks to Elk Rock, Brushy Creek and Volga. We asked rangers to find a nice spot out away from camp for those who need to get off, but have difficulty remounting.
Two years ago we began to hold weekend Iowa Horse Council Trails rides at Crossroads Ranch in Lucas Iowa. These rides have attracted several horse council members as well as nonmembers. They are full weekends with trail riding, cattle work, pot luck summers, pancake breakfasts and cowboy church. Our rides are held each May and Oct. Watch for more information on them on the website and on our Facebook page.
If you wish to join us please contact any committee member, or committee chairperson.
